Opening
Center for Spanish language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries "Panhispanica" at St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University was established by order of SPbSFTU’s Acting Rector – Irina A. Melnichuk on the October 22nd, 2021. On January 26th, 2021, a cooperation agreement was signed with Hermitage Group LLC (Hermitage Group); on June 11th, 2021, a cooperation agreement was signed with the Center of Spanish Language and Culture "Adelante". The visit of the Consul General of the Republic of Spain – Felix Valdes Valentin-Gamazo to St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University on April 22nd, 2021 also became an important event for the Panhispanica Center.
During 2020-2021 the staff of the International Cooperation Department conducted preparations for the opening of the Panhispanica Center: lectures and thematic meetings devoted to the Spanish language, culture and history of Latin America and Spain, gastronomy, tourism and much more were organized, as well as meetings with representatives of Spanish-speaking countries.
For example, on February 24th, 2021, a lecture "Higher Education System in Spain" was held; on May 31st, 2021, a lecture "Spanish in the World and International Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language: DELE/SIELE" was held.
The opening of the Center "Panhispanica" was a new stage in the development of cultural and educational relations between Russia and the Spanish-speaking world and an important step towards the further development of the long-standing cooperation between Russia and Spain.
Purpose
The purpose of "Panhispanica" is to promote the Spanish language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
Events
- On April 19th, 2023, as a part of the work of the Center for the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish-speaking countries "Panhispanica", the opening of the exhibition of paintings by St. Petersburg artists “warmed by the Sun” was held at SPbSFTU. The exhibition was dedicated to the luxurious tropical nature of Central and South America. The guests of the event had a pleasant trip into the world of greenery and the sun! The works of such St. Petersburg artists as: Elena Mertsay, Anna Chekushkina, and Elena Zamlynskaya were presented there.
- On Tuesday, March 14th, 2023, a meeting with Anna, the founder of @kulturno_piter, was held at "Panhispanica" Center. During the meeting, the participants got acquainted with the biography of the artist - Salvador Dali, learned how he was connected with Disney and Hitchcock, and even Chupa-Chups company, as well as what role did his wife, his main muse-Gala, play in his life.
- On February 21st, 2023, a charity event was held under the work of the "Panhispanica" Center. One of the partners of "Panhispanica", the company "Hermitage Group" represented by its founder Vicente Kaseiro, provided its things for foreign students of the university. The event was dedicated to the International Day of the native language, which is celebrated on February 21. The "Panispanica" Center expresses heartfelt gratitude to the "Hermitage Group" and Vicente Kaseiro personally for a charity event. The event was also attended by the editor-in-chief of the journal TourPressClub, Anatoly F. Kovalev.
- On January 31st, 2023, as part of the work of the Center for Spanish language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries "Panhispanica" at SPbSFTU, a lecture “Guitarist Paco de Lucia - King of the Classical Flmenko” was held. The lecture was held by Maria Pilipeiko, an employee of LLC "Hermitage Group". At the meeting, the participants learned about the history of flamenco, watched a fragment of the film “Flamenko, Flamenko” (2010, Carlos Saur), and also got acquainted with the biography of the legend of the classic flamenco - Paco de Lucia.
- On December 19th, 2022, as part of the work of the Center for the Spanish Language and Culture of Spanish-Speaking Countries "Panispanica" at SPbSFTU, annual Christmas meetings were held in "Panispanica" dedicated to Christmas and the upcoming New Year. At the event we discussed the celebration of Christmas in Spanish-speaking countries and also organized a music competition - an interactive game in Spanish and Russian. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Spanish Language and Culture Center "Adelante" and General Director of the Hermitage Group - Vicente Caseiro.
- On December 9th, 2022, the online presentation of the electronic library of the Cervantes Institute took place (https://moscu.cervantes.es/es/biblioteca_espanol/biblioteca_electronica/biblioteca_electronica.htm). At this online meeting, the participants learned about the ways to use the library's electronic resources effectively. The online presentation was held by Fernando Carrera (Founder of the Center of Spanish Language and Culture "Adelante") and José Francisco Pérez (Head of the Cervantes Institute Library in Moscow) in Spanish.
- On November 18th, 2022, a master class on cooking Spanish paella was held at "Panhispanica". The master class was held by the head of the Hermitage Group company - Vicente Caseiro. Vicente also talked about the history and different ways of cooking this dish. The meeting was also attended by: Maria Pilipeyko (representative of the Hermitage Group), Anatoly F. Kovalev (Chairman of the TourPressClub - the Guild of Tourism Journalism of the regional NGO MediaSoyuz), employees of SPbSFTU’s Directorate of International Cooperation, students and guests of the university.
- On May 20th, 2022, a lecture was held at the "Panhispanica" Center for the Spanish Language and Culture of Spanish-Speaking Countries. The topic of the lecture was: “The history of the Real Madrid football club”. The lecture was held by Vicente Caseiro, the founder of Hermitage Group and a partner of our University. A draw for the prize was carried out and the winners got T-shirts with original signatures of Real Madrid football players.
- On April 27th, 2022, Fernando Carrera, the head of the Center of Spanish Language and Culture "Adelante", held a Spanish language master class as part of the work of the "Panhispanica" Center at SPbSFTU. Participants learned how to greet, introduce themselves, get to know each other and say goodbye in Spanish, and, most importantly, learned not to be afraid of the Spanish language, because it is considered to be very easy to learn.
- On March 16th, 2022 at the "Panhispanica" Center held a lecture on the topic: "Central America is an amazing region." The speaker of the lecture was the Chairman of the Commission of the Russian Geographical Society for the Study of Latin America, Honorary Consul of Guatemala in St. Petersburg Alexei V. Khovanov.
- On February 17th, 2022, the "Panhispanica" Center, together with Hermitage Group, held a competition for SPbSFTU’s students to win tickets for the match of the European League Championship UEFA Zenit - Real Betis. According to the terms of the competition, the participants were supposed to develop a strategy for promoting summer schools that will be held at St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University from May to September 2022. Based on the results of the draw, 4 winners were chosen. The best work, according to Hermitage Group experts, was provided by Koshen Mohammed. Vicente Kaseiro, the founder of Hermitage Group, and Beatrice Arilia, the director of the promotion of Conturs, the tourism administration of Seville, handed tickets to the winners.
- On December 22nd, 2021, Christmas meetings were held in "Panhispanica" Center. The program of Christmas meetings included talks about Christmas in the Spanish-speaking countries, contests, Kahoot, a musical gift from Dmitry Makareev, a student of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, and many others.
- On November 11th, 2021, the solemn opening of the Center for Spanish language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries "Panhispanica" at St. Petersburg State Forest Technical University took place. The opening ceremony was held in the University’s History and Educational Museum. The ceremonial opening was attended by honorary guests, including the Consul General of the Kingdom of Spain in St. Petersburg, Mr. Felix Valdes and the Honorary Consuls of the Spanish-speaking countries in St. Petersburg.
